Nurses from University College Cork received training in the Best Practice Guidelines for Informing Families of their Child's Disability today, delivered by parent and Chairperson of the Informing Families Project in Cork, Katherine O'Leary.

42 SHO's (Senior House Officers - Trainnee Doctors) attended training on the topic of Informing Families of their Child's Disability, at the Royal College of Physicians (RCPI) in Dublin, on Wednesday 22 September 2010. The trainee doctors, who are in their first and second years of specialisation, attended the training during a Paediatric Study Day organised by the RCPI.

The Informing Families Cork Implementation has been announced by the HSE Achievement Awards as one of the five shortlisted projects from the HSE South region. The national awards will be announced in the Mansion House on 24 November 2010.

Today Minister for Equality, Disability and Mental Health Mr. John Moloney launched a set of tools piloted in Cork to help professionals across the country use best practice when communicating the news of a child's disability to a family.
