Best Practice Guidelines

The topic of referral pathways when a child is diagnosed with a disability is an area beyond the scope of the Informing Families Guidelines and is an area in which further research is recommended. However, a small number of specific recommendations in relation to referral were brought forward through the various strands of research and consultation of the Informing Families project. In this respect the guidelines recommend that:

7.1  Parents are referred to early services as soon as possible.  

7.2 Parents are given information about the service they are referred to.
